Sharing bookmarks/transporting bookmarks to another computer Top of page

PowerDVD makes it possible to use bookmarks created on one computer (e.g., in your office or at home) on another computer (e.g., in a classroom). This powerful feature allows teachers to prepare DVD-based course content in an environment other than that in which they will be teaching.

The process involves two steps:

  • exporting the bookmark file (e.g., from the home or office computer)
  • importing the bookmark file (e.g., on the classroom computer)

Exporting bookmark collections Top of page

  • Click the Configuration icon
  • Select the General tab
  • Click Advanced
  • Select the Bookmarks tab
  • Click Export Bookmarks
  • A dialog box appears
    • Replace the * in the *.bmk shown in the File name: field with the name you want to use for your bookmark collection (e.g., dsjbookmarks.bmk)
    • Choose the location in which the file will be saved by clicking the down arrow to the right of the Save in: field
    • The most logical place to save would be to a folder in your P: drive or T: drive, so you will have access to this from any campus location. You can also save the file to a floppy disk. Remember where you save it, for you will need this file to import the bookmarks into the other computer
    • Click Save
  • The .bmk file is a collection of all bookmarks saved on the computer up to that point, regardless of the number of DVDs or DVD titles
    • It is not specific to the DVD you are working on at the time the bookmarks were exported

Importing bookmark collections Top of page

  • Click the Configuration icon
  • Select the General tab
  • Click Advanced
  • Select the Bookmarks tab
  • Click Import Bookmarks
  • Navigate to the location of the file containing your bookmark collection (e.g., dsjbookmarks.bmk)
