VCR-TV Instructions for CATV on Campus
By unplugging your TV and VCR at home, you've erased all of the settings!
When you arrive on campus:
- Connect the coax cable and verify that you are receiving a signal.
- If you did not bring a coax (RF) cable with you, you will need to purchase from a local supplier. If you use option 3 below, you must have a second RF cable.
- Enter the menu on TV (and VCR if you have one), and reset the antenna selection to CATV.
- Auto program both the TV and VCR.
Even if you have a battery backup, you must perform these steps!
In most cases, there are three options to set up your TV and VCR to receive cable TV. The following general instructions should be helpful. Otherwise, you must have equipment manuals on hand to request HelpDesk assistance.
Option 1. The quick and easy option for cable TV reception. Use this option when you do NOT have a VCR, or when you have a TV/VCR or TV/VCR/DVD combo unit.
- Connect RF cable from wall plate to antenna IN on TV.
- Set menu on TV to program channels
- Select CATV and do auto program. (This will take a few minutes to process.)
Option 2. This set up allows you to use your VCR for a tuner to select cable TV channels. It also allows you to record and play tapes in your VCR without changing cables around. You must have a TV with A-V inputs.
- Connect RF cable from wall plate to antenna IN on your VCR
- Connect cables from Video and Audio OUT of VCR to Video and Audio IN on your TV.
- Set TV to Line or AV input (use channel up-down). (Go to below Channel 2 and they will show up on the screen.)
- Select menu on your VCR and go to program channels.
- Select CATV and do auto program. This will take a few minutes to process.
- Set VCR to LINE on remote
Option 3. The same functionality as option 2, however, it does not require your TV to have A-V inputs. You can use your VCR as a tuner, and to play/record tapes in your VCR without changing cables around. Remember you will need an additional RF cable.
- Connect RF cable from wall plate to antenna IN on your VCR
- Connect another RF cable from the antenna OUT (to TV) on your VCR to the antenna IN on TV
- Turn on TV and set to Channel 3 or 4. (This depends on what output channel your VCR is set on and is selectable by a switch on the back of your VCR
Select menu on VCR and go to program channels
- Select CATV and do auto program. This will take a few minutes to process.
TV always stays on Channel 3 or 4
- Use remote for VCR to tune in to a cable channel
