Automated Vacation Messages

Set a vacation message on the voicemail system Top of page

  • Enter your voicemail box normally via x5050, with your password
    • If calling from off campus
      • Dial (315) 229-5050
      • Push #
      • Enter your mailbox number (same as your extension)
      • Enter your password
  • Press 4 – personal options
  • Press 3 – greetings
  • Press 2 – extended absence greeting
  • Follow the directions to record your extended absence greeting
    • The new greeting will temporarily replace your regular outgoing greeting (it will not erase it from the system)

To check your messages while away:

  • Enter your voicemail box normally via x5050, with your password
    • If calling from off campus
      • Dial (315) 229-5050
      • Push #
      • Enter your mailbox number (same as your extension)
      • Enter your password
  • Push #1 to retain extended absence greeting
  • The system will then check and play your messages normally

When you return from vacation (deleting the vacation greeting):

  • Enter your voicemail box normally via x5050, with your password
    • If calling from off campus
      • Dial (315) 229-5050
      • Push #
      • Enter your mailbox number (same as your extension)
      • Enter your password
  • The system will notify you have you currently have an extended absence greeting, push #2 to delete it
  • Your previous outgoing message will return normally

Set automatic vacation reply for e-mailTop of page

  • Go to MyMail.
  • Enter your network username and password.
  • On the left-hand menu, click the plus sign next to Mail.
  • Click the Filters link.
  • Click the Vacation button along the top of the page.
  • Enter your SLU email address(es) in the My email Addresses: box (one each on one line). For example:
    jdoz@stlawu.edu
    jdozer@stlawu.edu
    Some people may have multiple aliases, if you are unsure contact the HelpDesk.
  • *optional - In the Addresses to not send responses to: box enter any addresses you do not want a vacation message sent to. For example, friends or colleagues who know you will be away.
  • *optional - Click the Do not send responses to bulk or list messages box to not send auto-reply messages to large mailings.
  • Enter the number of days to wait before sending an autoresponse to an address that has already received one.
  • Enter the subject of your auto-reply message in the Subject of vacation message: box.
  • Enter the body of your auto-reply message in the Reason: box.
  • Hit the Save button.
  • To activate the vacation message:
    • Click the Filters button along the top of the page.
    • Next to Vacation link, click disabled - click to enable or the X under the Enabled column.
    • A check mark should now appear under the Enabled column that applies to the Vacation filter rule.
    • Click Logout along the top of the screen.
  • When you return from vacation
    • Return to this screen
    • Click the check mark under the enabled column beside the Vacation link.
    • A red X should now appear under the Enabled column that applies to the Vacation filter rule.
  • Remember to test your vacation message by sending yourself a message!
