Voicemail Instructions
Setting
up your voicemail
If
this is your first time
setting up voicemail, a
very
user-friendly
tutorial has been established
to guide you through the
process.
To
set up your voicemail:
- Your
voicemail number is the
same as your telephone
number
- Lift
the receiver and dial x5050.
This is the telephone
number of the voicemail system
- When
asked for the password,
use 1
2 3 4 5 6 7.
This temporary password
is the key to accessing
the setup tutorial
that will walk you step-by-step
through the process
- The
tutorial will require
you to establish a different
password
- When
setup is complete, the
Automated Assistant will
say “Goodbye” and
disconnect your call;
you will not hear this
tutorial again
But
you are not finished
just yet!
You
MUST now program your telephone
so that unanswered calls
will find their way to YOUR
voicemail. This process
is known as Call Forwarding.
You can forward your calls
to your voicemail both
if you are currently on
the phone or if you are
away from the phone.
To
activate the call forwarding:
- Call
forward busy:
- Lift
receiver
- Listen
for dial tone
- Press
* 2 5050
- Listen
for
3 beeps
- Hang
up
- Call
forward no answer:
- Lift
receiver
- Listen
for dial tone
- Press
* 3 5050
- Listen
for 3 beeps
- Hang
up
If
you should wish to disconnect
your voicemail from
your telephone (i.e. suspend
call forwarding on your
line), you would need to
cancel your settings as
follows:
- Cancel
Call Forward Busy:
- Lift
receiver
- Listen
for dial
tone
- Press
# 2
- Listen
for 3 beeps
- Hang
up
- Cancel
call forward no answer:
- Lift
receiver
- Listen
for dial tone
- Press #
3
- Listen
for 3 beeps
- Hang
up
- If
you do NOT hear the
3 beeps that confirm
that your telephone
has been successfully
forwarded, the rapid
busy tone you will
hear is indicating that
your telephone has
already
been forwarded. In
that event, you should
test your forwarding
either
by calling your extension
from another phone,
or by asking the Helpdesk
(x5770) to assist you.
How
To Check Your Messages:
Your
telephone has either a light
or a display to indicate
that you have messages waiting
in you mailbox.
- Dial
x5050
- Enter
your password
- If
calling from off-campus,
dial (315)229-5050
- Dial
#
- Enter
your
mailbox number
(same
as your extension)
- Enter
your password
A
Final Note About Passwords
Your
password is completely confidential;
the Telecommunications staff
can not look it up if you forget
it. We strongly advise that
you keep your voicemail
password written down in a
secure place. However, we strongly
advise that your password NOT be
stored on a telephone speed
dial number in order to provide
necessary privacy and security.
