Network Printing

Network printing has changed, effective January 2005. The final stages of the network migration from Novell to Microsoft servers includes changing the server name on your office computer.

IT student employees have been traveling throughout campus labeling printers. Each printer has the name of the queue and instructions to install the printer from the new server.

Please follow these instructions to check if your printer is pointing to the new print server or the old slu server, and to install the proper printer if required.

Example

  • If the printer had a label of: Information_Technology_Office
    • OLD = Information_Technology_Office_q on SLU
    • NEW = Information_Technology_Office on PRINT

Delete old Novell printer(s)

  • Click Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes
  • Right-click on any old printer(s) (any of the ones that say on SLU at the end)
  • Choose Delete
  • Choose Yes to confirm

Instructions to install new printer

  • Click Start > Search > Find Printers
  • In the Find Printers window
  • In the name field, type the first word of the queue name (found on the printer)
  • Click Find Now
  • Printer will appear at the bottom
  • Double-click the correct printer (name labeled on printer) to install the printer
  • This will take about 25-40 seconds to install the printer driver

Set new printer to default

Default means that, while in any program, the print icon will go to this default printer unless specified otherwise.

  • Click Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes
  • Right-click on the printer
  • Choose Set as Default
