Campus Network Upgrade, Summer 2011

Information Technology has completed several major improvements to the campus computer network

  • Wired network infrastructure (including all switches and some in-building wiring) has been replaced.
  • Wireless network now supports the more robust "802.11n" standard.
  • Internet bandwidth has increased  from 200Mb/s to 500 Mb/s
  • A secondary wireless network "slu-gamer" is available for wireless gaming/streaming devices for optimal performance.

These changes are the result of evaluating student demand and substantially improve performance on the wireless network for access to streaming media, course material and Web browsing.

Attention Students:

IT prefers all students access the network via slu-wifi for secure and faster browsing. This also reduces electricity consumption by underutilized wired network equipment.
Students in need of wired network connections will need to either A) upgrade their device(s) for wireless access or B) submit a request to enable their jack (information on this option will be posted to the IT website prior to the fall semester).
