Mac replacement planned for 2012

Nearly 200 faculty and staff University owned* Apple computers will be replaced during summer 2012. IT is arranging 1-on-1 consultations with current Mac users to discuss technology needs and upgrade options. Consultations will conclude by October 21 2011.

After a consultation, faculty/staff will choose from two models: A 13" MacBook Pro (laptop), or a 21.5" iMac (desktop). Additional hardware requests with justification must be submitted for approval to by Monday, October 24, 2011.

In comparison, the trade-off between models is power and screen size vs. portability. iMac specifications in bold (in addition to screen size) are considered performance upgrades over the MacBook Pro feature set.

*Computers purchased by the Division of Information Technology with capital funds as part of the University-wide computer replacement process will be replaced. Computers purchased with departmental, grant, personal or other funds will not be replaced.
