AV Installation Standards [Contractors]
The following are understood within the context of all IT cablings standards.
Instructor's station to projector:
(2) 3.5mm mini stereo cable male-to-male;
(1) Cut to length Projector cable [contains (6) miniature 26ga. shielded coax and (2) 22ga.STP];
(1) SVGA cable HD-15 male-to-male;
(2) DVI-D dual link (or HDMI male-to-male cable);
(1) RS-232 control cable male-to-male;
(2) Cut to length CAT6 network/data cable.
Instructor's station to speaker locations:
(2) 14 gauge speaker wires.
Drops to instructor's station via wall outlets:
(1) 120vac 20 amp circuit in duplex outlet (4 outlets);
(1) CATV drop via RG-6 coaxial cable w/solid center conductor and copper braided shield, terminated in a female f-connector in a single-gang plate with RJ-45 jacks and telephone jack;
(2) Network drops via Category 6 network/data cable terminated with female RJ-45 jacks in a single-gang plate with CATV connector and telephone jack;
(1) Telephone drop terminated in female jack in a single-gang plate with RJ-45 and telephone jacks.
At projector location:
(1)Duplex 120vac 20amp circuit with technical ground - shared with outlet at podium location;
(1) Network outlet via Category 6 network/data cable.
Additional AV Installation Requirements
AC Power
All circuits designated for the AV systems installation should originate from the same electrical panel. Circuits shall include a separate "green wire" ground (conduit grounds are not acceptable). All grounds shall be bonded together at the electric panel on a common buss bar or similar ground connection. ("Technical Ground") A dedicated circuit is required. The desk and the projector AC power should be on the same breaker, same phase leg, and same ground. It shall be an uninterrupted "home run" from the room to the circuit breaker panel. No other outlets or equipment may be added on to this circuit.
Data
New data connections must be current standard Cat X and must be "home runs" to the communication closet/IDF. Data connections will always terminate in a single- or double-gang (depending on number) box with female RJ-45 jacks in them.
CATV
If CATV is required, connection must be one continuous piece of RG-6 cable and be a "home run" to the communication closet/IDF. Termination will be a female f connector in a single-gang box. It may share a single-gang box with RJ-45 data jack. Signal strength at the new outlet must be a minimum of 0dBmV and no greater than 10dBmV.
Cable Management
AC cabling must always conform to current local building codes. Additionally, all low voltage/signal cables must be routed in cable trays or guides, or with the use of cable bundling straps or J-hooks. These cable trays/guides/straps will be anchored to structural elements (walls, beams, etc.) and are to be separate from AC cables. No cables (be they power or signal) will be lain loose above drop ceilings. Contact with lighting systems and other AC power will be avoided. Additionally, these AV cables should never run alongside nor be attached to any power or lighting cables.
Projector Mounting
Wherever possible, the mounting system will begin with a unistrut or similar track system that will allow for longitudinal adjustment of the projector location on the image axis. (This is to allow for differing throw distances of future projectors.) When the vertical pipe is mounted to this unistrut or track, the pipe will be a single piece (with no in-line coupling), will be rigid and stable, and should not have any play in any direction. The mounting system must be positioned such that the projector lens is exactly centered on the projection surface and the lens and the projection surface are perfectly parallel.
