Pay for Print
On Monday, February 16, Information Technology emailed print usage reports to members of the student body. Thanks to all the feedback we received from campus we have identified a bug in the Windows server that handles printing.
Please disregard the report from Monday as the numbers are not accurate. We will send another report on Monday, March 16 that will include a link to the print monitoring software. This software will have a detailed outline of each student's personal printing. Be sure to sign into this system and confirm that all the print jobs are correct.
The print monitoring pilot semester is to evaluate what a typical St. Lawrence student prints. We will use this number to determine the appropriate credit that will both curb unnecessary printing and support the academic mission.
This is a positive and responsible direction for the University; your feedback is important for a smooth transition! Please visit to the new print monitor frequently asked questions and answers page.
Did you know that faculty, staff and students printed over 450,000 sheets of paper in our libraries over the last six months?
In response to growing concerns for paper and toner waste and in support of the President's Climate Commitment, we have begun monitoring print usage on all networked printers across campus. Starting February 15, students will receive a monthly individual report via email detailing the number of pages they've printed.
By monitoring printing during the Spring 2009 semester we intend to address the following concerns:
- How many pages does a student print, on average?
- How many free pages should a student receive each semester?
- If a students exceed their free printing how will we proceed?
- How will a student know their print balance?
Committees and organizations across campus, such as Thelmo, Conservation Council, ITC, ETC and Senior Staff, will be reviewing printer usage to determine proper quotas and to establish a fair solution to charge for excess printing.
Starting Fall 2009, these quotas will be in place and St. Lawrence University will begin to charge students for printing in excess of quotas. Please email infotech@stlawu.edu if you have any questions or concerns
