How to Operate

To Call an on-campus number

  • Lift Handset
  • Listen for dial tone
  • Dial the 4-digit number (extension)

To call and off-campus number

  • Lift Handset
  • Listen for dial tone
  • Dial 8+ number for local callsor
  • Dial 8+1+area code and number for long distance

To monitor a call in progress

  • Press SPKR button
  • Listen for dial tone
  • Proceed with call as outlined above
  • Lift handset to begin conversation

To answer a call
(fast ring indicates an outside call; slow ring indicates an inside call)

  • Lift handset to speak or
  • Press SPRK button to use speakerphone

To answer an extension appearing on your phone other than your own

  • Press flashing button
  • Lift handset to speak or press SPKR button to use speakerphone

To place a call on hold

  • Press the HOLD button
  • Help line will flash
  • press the held line button to return to call

To place a call on exclusive hold

  • Press HOLD twice (this excludes all other extensions from retrieving your held call)
  • Press the held line button to return to call

To transfer a call

  • Ask party to hold (but don't place on hold)
  • Press TRF button and listen for special dial tone
  • Dial party to receive call; upon answering, announce transfer and then hang up to put the call through
  • If the line is busy, no answer, or refuses transfer; press the TRF button to return to the caller

To conference a three-way call

  • Ask the first party to hold (but don't place on hold)
  • Press the TRF button and listen for special dial tone
  • Dial second party; when party answer, announce conference and press the CNF button
  • All parties are now connected
  • For parties of 4-8 callers, please contact the IT HelpDesk (x5770) and put in a workorder to use the conference bridge

Call Forwarding (used to activate voicemail - extension x5050)

Call forward - All Calls
(all calls will be sent to the programmed number)

  • Lift Handset
  • Dial *1, listen for 3 beeps
  • Dial the number that you want calls forwarded to, listen for 3 beeps
  • Hang up (note - your phone will no longer ring)
  • To cancel, lift handset, dial #1, listen for 3 beeps, then hang up

Call Forward - Busy
(calls will be sent to the programmed number if your phone is busy)

  • Lift Handset
  • Dial *2, listen for 3 beeps
  • Dial the number calls will be forwarded to, listen for 3 beeps
  • Hang up
  • To Cancel, lift the handset, dial #2, listen for 3 beeps, then hang up

Call Forward - No Answer
(calls will be sent to the programmed number if there is no answer after 6 rings)

  • Lift Handset
  • Dial *3, listen for 3 beeps
  • Dial the number calls will be forwarded to, listen for 3 beeps
  • Hang up
  • To Cancel, lift handset, dial #3, listen for 3 beeps, then hang up

Call Pickup
(allows you to answer a ringing phone in your group from your phone)

  • Lift Handset
  • Dial *7 to answer the call
  • Note -- not all departments have a call pickup group. Check with the Telecommunications Office for details

 Speed Dialing Buttons
(remember to write these down as they can sometimes be deleted)

To Program (do not lift handset)

  • Press desired Speed Dial button
  • Dial desired number in exact manner you would if you were placing the call
  • Press Speed Dial button again to set
  • To cancel, program over existing number

To Use

  • Lift Handset
  • Press desired Speed Dial button

User Features

Call Back (CB)

  • Upon receiving busy signal, press button, hear 3 beeps, light will activate. When called party hangs up, you will automatically call the extension
  • Note -- feature works only for on-campus calls

Save and Repeat (S+R)

  • After establishing a call or upon receiving a busy signal, press button, light will activate, dialed number will be saved. To dial number again, lift handset and press button

Last Number Redial

  • Lift handset and press button to activate feature

User Settings

Speaker Volume - Use slide switch on bottom edge of the telephone to adjust

Ring Tone - 3 ring tones are available with the slide switch on the back of the telephone

Ring Volume - Use slide switch on the back of the telephone to adjust

Display Contrast (Display Models Only) -  Use slide switch on top edge of telephone to adjust

 

Types of Tones

Dial Tone -  A continuous steady tone, the telephone is ready for dialing

Special Dial Tone - 3 beeps folloewd by a steady dial tone, proceed

Service Set Tone - 3 beeps followed by silence, service feature has been accepted

Reorder Tone - A fast busy tone indicating the phone is not programmed to accept the number dialed or feature requested (RST on display models)

 

Display Information (Display models only)

Idle condition - Displays current time and date

When receiving a call - Displays called name and number (on campus only, Number only for off campus

When initiating a call - Displays number dialed, then duration of call
