What technology First Year Students are bringing to campus

Each year, Institutional Research and Information Technology invite First Year Students to participate in the Cooperative Institutional Research Program Freshment Survey (CIRP). This survey is a self examination of technological skill from high school to college and throughout their college career. Some of the interesting information that comes from this survey is what pieces of technology students bring to campus. Below is a snapshot of what First Year Students are bringing to St. Lawrence.

98% of students brought a computer to campus

  • 97% of those computers were Laptops
  • 51% were PCs and 49% were Macs
  • 90% purchased that computer new
  • 29% bought their computer through the Brewer Bookstore

  • 88% brought a cell phone -- please note that Verizon and AT&T have the strongest signals
  • 54% brought a printer
  • 45% brought a digital still or video camera
  • 25% brought a webcam
