New Copiers on Campus This Week!
Information Technology has once again partnered with IKON to provide copier service to campus. The new copiers have arrived on campus and we will begin rolling them out this week. The whole process should take about 1 week. Details about these installations will be provided to the person responsible for the copier in each department. Training will be provided at the time of installation and as needed throughout the fall semester. These new copiers will be RICOH copiers. For more information about the new copiers and their capabilities, feel free to check out their website -- RICOH Aficio MP 2550 and RICOH Aficio MP 4000
With these new copiers come many exciting new features! Everyone will have the ability to print directly to these copiers. This includes collating and stapling. The new copiers will also include secure printing. When you print to a copier in a public area with secure printing enabled, you will need to swipe your SLU ID card to release your print job. This will make printing confidential documents more secure and will also save paper as you choose which document to release. Once the copiers are completely rolled out you will see new print options available on your computer automatically.
Also, you will be able to do color OCR scanning right from the copier and either email the document to yourself or have it save to your P: drive by default. The scanning feature will not be available immediately when the copier is replaced but will follow shortly.
The new copiers will not have the ability to FAX. We have ordered some regular fax machines to offset this inconvenience. These will be placed around campus where needed.
When the lease expired on our current copiers with IKON, we were able to re-evaluate and more efficiently place these new copiers on campus and also decrease the number of copiers by 5. This, combined with the new contract with IKON has been a huge cost savings for the University.
