These instructions are for Macintosh computers running Mac OS X (Mac OS 10.3 and greater only).

Before installing Sophos Anti-Virus you must first uninstall any other antivirus scanning utility.

To Download and Install Sophos Anti-Virus:

• Download the file, ESOSX.zip by clicking here. (please use your network login to access the download file) (Netscape and Firefoxwill prompt you for a location to save the file. It is best to download the file to your desktop or open it automatically with the default application). Safari will automatically download and extract the zip file to your desktop for you, if this is the case skip the next two steps. Please be aware that the download time can be quite lengthy, depending on your internet connection speed.
• Now you must locate the download and double click the file name ESOSX.zip to extract the application files
• Once the applcation files have been extracted, double click the folder to access the installation files.
• In the ESOSX folder double click the file named Sophos Anti-Virus.mpkg file to begin the Sophos Installer.
  • Click Continue to start the installation process.
  • Click Continue to display the read-me.
  • Click Continue to proceed past the read-me section.
  • On the Select Destination screen be sure to select you local hard drive, this is usually labeled "Macintosh HD" and click Continue to proceed.
  • On the Installation Type screen click Install to accept the default options.
  • Once the installer has finished click Restart to restart your system.
• Sophos Auto Update will check for updates when the computer starts up, if an internet connection is available. Sophos will the check for updates every hour when connected to the internet.
• To update Sophos Anti-Virus manually click the new shield icon on your menu bar near the default clock location and select Update Now from the menu.
• To setup imediate scan options click the Sophos shield and select Open Sophos Anti-Virus...
• Click Sophos Anti-Virus on the menu bar and select Preferences...
• Under Immediate Scan highlight Disinfection on the left and check Enable Disinfection on the right. Also check the Action On Infected Files and confirm Delete is selected.
• Close the preferences dialog by clicking the red x in the uper left corner.
• Select the drive you would like to scan in the Sophos Anti-Virus window and click the play button or double click the drive to begin a scan.

To Remove Sophos Anti-Virus from your system:

• Double click your local hard drive (usually named "Macintosh HD"). Double click Library, then Application Support, then Sophos Anti-Virus. Double click the Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg icon and click Continue. Click close to complete the uninstall.
• On the Select Destination screen be sure to select you local hard drive, this is usually labeled "Macintosh HD" and click Continue to proceed.
• On the Installation Type screen click Install to accept the default options.
• Once the installer has finished click Restart to restart your system.
