Wireless Configuration for Mac OS X 10.3 or later
This document describes how to setup and
configure the native PEAP Client for Mac OS X (10.3 or later) in order
to connect to the SLU secure wireless network. These instructions are
specifically designed for a laptop running on OS X (10.3 or later)
operating system (secure wireless will not work with 10.2 or earlier), and they also presume you have administrative privileges to configure the settings.
Authentication Configuration Apple Macintosh 802.1x
- For Macintosh laptops that use the Airport wireless adapter, click on the wireless network icon on the upper right section of your toolbar and select Open Internet Connect...
- On the Internet Connect menu, select File > New 802.1X Connection...
- On the Configuration drop-down list, select Edit Configurations...
- In the 802.1X Configuration screen, enter the following information:
- Description: Leave the default name as 802.1X Configuration
- Network Port: Your wireless adapter/card should be selected already e.g: AirPort
- User Name: enter your SLU network username
- Password: Enter your SLU network password
- Wireless Network: enter slu-secure
- Authentication: Make sure that PEAP is checked and uncheck all other types
- Click "OK" to continue
- Returning to the Internet Connect configuration screen, you should see the username and wireless network information you just entered in the previous step.
- Click Connect
- The 802.1x authentication message will be pushed to your computer and shown on your screen
- You will be prompted to either decline or accept the certificate
- Select the VeriSign Certificate from the list and click Accept all
- Provided you entered a valid SLU account username and password, you should now be authenticated and connected via PEAP.
- On the Internet Connect menu, click File > Quit Internet Connect to close the application.
- If you are prompted to save the configuration, choose to save it
- The 802.1x authentication setup is now complete
- In the future, when you want to reconnect to the wireless network, click on the wireless network icon on the upper right section of your toolbar
- Select Open Internet Connect...
- Click on the 802.1X icon
- Click Connect to reconnect
