Microsoft Outlook - Junk E-Mail

Junk E-Mail Folder

  • Potential SPAM messages will be delivered here for you to verify. If it is a legitimate message,
    • Right click on that message and mark as Not Junk and it will moved to the Inbox
    • Check Always trust email from to add that sender to your Safe Senders list
  • Messages in here will remain for 14 days and then automatically be deleted. You will have the option to recover these deleted messages for up to 60 days after they are deleted
    • Tip: Drag unwanted email into this folder and it will be removed from your mailbox automatically

Managing Safe Senders

Adding addresses and domains to this list allows the messages from the senders to bypass spam filtering for your mailbox only.

  • Outlook 2010
    • Select the Home tab at the top of the Outlook window
    • Select Junk Mail Options from the Junk drop down menu in the Delete section of the ribbon
  • Outlook 2007
    • Click the Actions menu at the top and click Junk E-Mail and then select Junk E-Mail Options...
  • Click the Safe Senders tab
  • Add an email address or domain to this area to ensure they will not be blocked by the spam filter
  • This list applies to messages addressed to you directly
  • These lists apply to Outlook and Outlook web mail

Managing Blocked Senders

Adding addresses and domains to this list blocks the messages from the senders for your mailbox only, The Sender will receive a message stating the message has not been delivered, specific error code "554 5.1.0 Sender denied"

  • Outlook 2010
    • Select the Home tab at the top of the Outlook window
    • Select Junk Mail Options from the Junk drop down menu in the Delete section of the ribbon
  • Outlook 2007
    • Click the Actions at the top and click Junk E-Mail and then select Junk E-Mail Options...
  • Click the Blocked Senders tab
  • Add an email address or domain to this list to block a sender
  • Senders in the list will receive a bounce back message saying that the message was rejected by our email system
