Scanning
your Computer with Sophos
(Windows)
- Open
the Sophos Program
- Click
Start > Programs > Sophos
Anti-Virus
- Make
sure that your Sophos
preferences are in
order
- In
the Options menu,
choose Configuration
- Click
the Action tab
- Make
sure the Disinfect
Boot Sectors, Disinfect
Documents,
Disinfect
Programs and
Infected
Files boxes
are all checked
- Make
sure the Request
Confirmation box
is checked
- Under
Infected
Files, choose
Delete
- Click
OK
- Make
sure it says All
Files under
File
Types for
all drives
- If
it doesn't, click on
a drive and then choose
Edit
- Choose
All under
File
Types and
click OK
- Check
to make sure you have
the most current release
of Sophos
- From
the Help menu,
choose About.
Make sure the
version number
is at least 3.76
and the release
date is within
the past month
- If
it is not,
please call
the
IT HelpDesk
(x5770)
- Make
sure there is a green
light beside the drive
you want to scan
- If
there is not,
click
the circle beside
the drive icon
(under Path)
- Click
the GO button
- The
program will sweep
your drive checking
for viruses and
errors
- If
Sophos finds a virus
that it cannot disinfect,
a window will pop up
asking
if you want to delete
(or shred, or etc.)
the file, please call
