Information
Technology recommends users
configure
their computer to download
and install critical updates
automatically (this
option is only available
for Windows 2000 and
XP).
However,
users can update
manually
at any time. Follow these
instructions to update
your computer by visiting
the Microsoft
Windows update site.
- Open
Internet Explorer
- From
the Tools menu, choose
Windows
Update
- Click
Scan for Updates
- Critical
updates will
be added
automatically
if available
- On
the
left
click Windows
XP to
view optional
updates
- Choose
updates
to
install
by clicking
the Add button
next to each
desired
update
- Click
Review
and install updates
- Click
Install
Now
- Click
Accept
- Reboot
if prompted
- This
process
should be repeated until
no critical
updates are available
for installation
Setup
automatic Windows updates
This
option will setup Windows
to automatically apply windows
updates for you at a scheduled
time.

the Automatic
Updates tab
- Check Keep
my computer up
to date
- Select
Automatically
download the updates,
and install them
